In his co-scripted portrait of three 30-year-olds from Belo Horizonte director Sérgio Borges explores, crosses and blurs the boundaries between documentary and fiction. He asked his protagonists to act out their own, anything but ordinary, life in front of the camera. Murari Krishna is a fanatic football supporter, a telephone marketer, a graffiti artist and most of all a devoted Hare Krishna follower. Transsexual Everlyn Barbin graduated from university, but hasn’t managed to find a suitable job since she started taking hormones and dressing as a woman. She fulfils her need for love with her work as a street prostitute. Half Angolan and half Portuguese Lwei Bakongo is an aspiring writer. He has nine unfinished novels, but isn’t really accomplishing anything. He’s just too lazy. His second wife supports him.
Borges belongs to the audio-visual collective Teia founded in Belo Horizonte in 2003. They produce (web) films, videos and installations and organize workshops and exhibits. Their films have received many awards, as has O céu sobre os ombros which was awarded five times to date.
