Cachaça Cinema Clube
Hoe krijg je een groot publiek geïnteresseerd in korte films? Het lijkt een onmogelijke opgave – maar niet in Rio de Janeiro. In 2002 bedacht een groep filmstudenten een even eenvoudig als briljant concept: de Cachaça Cinema Clube. In de oude Cine Odeon, een bioscoop met ruim 500 stoelen, vond maandelijks een avond plaats, waarbij de bezoekers getrakteerd werden op korte films én cachaça, het nationale drankje van Brazilië. Een gouden vondst: deze drukbezochte avonden behoren inmiddels tot de belangrijkste culturele evenementen van de stad.
Voor één keer heeft de Cachaça Cinema Clube een andere locatie. Op 11 augustus opent de club haar deuren in Rialto met vijf korte muziekfilms én natuurlijk rijkelijk vloeiende cachaça. To top it off: vóór en na de films draait DJ Alice Spitz de muziek die precies bij het programma past. Die kent ze als geen ander – zij is de dj bij de Cachaça Cinema Clube in Rio!
Daarna is het nog niet gedaan: tot in de kleine uurtjes kun je dansen op de muziek van DJ Paulao. Braziliaanser kun je het in Amsterdam niet krijgen!

How can you attract a large audience to short film screenings? It seems impossible, but is not so in Rio de Janeiro. In 2002 a group of film students came up with an equally simple as brilliant concept: the
Cachaça Cinema Clube. They organized monthly sessions in the old Cine Odeon, a cinema theatre with some 500 chairs, during which visitors were treated to a short film plus cachaça, the national drink of Brazil. A stroke of genius: the well-attended evenings have become one of the most important cultural happenings in the city.
Just for once the
Cachaça Cinema Clube will leave the country. On August 11 the club will welcome visitors at Rialto with five short music films and of course lots of cachaça. To top it off DJ Alice Spitz will be spinning fitting sounds before and after the screenings. And she is definitely the right person for the job: she is one of the Cachaça Cinema Clube’s DJ in Rio! But that is not all: after that you will be able to dance far into the night to DJ Paulo Cosac’s music. How much more Brazilian can it get in Amsterdam?!
