For the 2016 application round, the World Cinema Amsterdam Foundation received a total of 40 applications by mainly young Cuban filmmakers: 13 for feature films and 27 for short film projects. On behalf of World Cinema Amsterdam, a selection committee evaluated all applications both in terms of content and budget. Filmmakers who had managed to link local issues to universal themes at an artistically as well as thematically high level were favored. Based on these criteria eight projects in total were accepted – six shorts and two full-length features. Their makers will receive a grant from the GO CUBA! fund, ranging from €400 to €10,000.
