600 Miles 1

Mexican director Gabriel Ripstein was introduced to filming at an early age: his grandfather Alfredo as well as his father Arturo Ripstein have been well-known figures in Mexican cinema for decades. Now the third generation is also making a name for itself with 600 Miles, a thrilling and emotional crime drama. And successfully at that: Gabriel Ripstein – who also wrote the screenplay for his debut – won the Best First Feature Award at the past Berlin Film Festival.

Young Mexican Arnulfo Rubio earns a living smuggling weapons from Arizona to Mexico for a major Mexican drug cartel. All seems to go smoothly, he never runs into any trouble. He has no clue however that he is under surveillance by agent Hank Harris (Tim Roth) of the ATF, an American organization that employs a rather casual interpretation of the law when it comes to combating drug crimes.

One day Harris slips up. Rubio finally recognizes the danger Harris presents, he overpowers his adversary and he does the one thing he can think of: taking him to the cartel bosses. They are in for a long and uncomfortable car ride.
