Sensei Redenshon

GERMAN GRUBER JR. | CURAÇAO | 2013' | 119' PAPIAMENTU WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES

Sensei Redenshon 2

"What a great achievement to make such a film with a very limited budget. [...] Well done!" Curacao newspaper Antilliaans Dagblad's film critic wrote in a review about Sensei Redenshon, the debut film of director German Gruber Jr who got a degree in film making in the Netherlands and now lives on Curacao. Making this film did indeed require considerable persistence. Gruber Jr. – determined to make a full-fledged Curacaoan feature film – worked on the film with professionals and especially lots of non-professionals with virtually no budget for three years, saw the project almost failing halfway through the shooting, but did not give up. It all resulted in a thrilling story about making choices and reconciliation, jam-packed with excellently choreographed fight scenes.

Sandro was in jail for ten years for killing his opponent in an illegal street fight. After being released, he wants to reconnect with his only son Shendel. But Shendel, who is about to turn 20, turns out to have followed in his father footsteps and has entered the shady, dangerous world of street fights. Sandro wants to protect his son from the life he himself led, but Shendel doesn't want to have anything to do with his father. Sandro will have to fight his toughest fight yet.

Ewoud Bon, who is one of the producers and also the cinematographer of the film will be attending the festival and will answer the audience's questions after the screening.
