Cine Caribe

This year, World Cinema Amsterdam turns the spotlight on Caribbean cinema in a special programme called Cine Caribe.

Caribbean cinema is experiencing unprecedented growth, with new films and emerging filmmakers. This programme presents ten feature films and nine shorts from the tropical islands of the Bahamas, Cuba, Curaçao, the Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago.

Cine Caribe opens with the film LA OBRA DEL SIGLO by Carlos M. Quintela, the Cuban filmmaker who won the festival’s Jury Award two years ago with his debut feature LA PISCINA. His short film BUEY is also included in the programme. Quintela is one of this special focus’ filmmakers who will attend the festival to present their films and have Q&A sessions with the audience after the screenings. And there are more: Maryulis Alfonso Yero will present three of her short films; Angela E. Roe will introduce her documentary SOMBRA Di KOLÓ and Jérôme Guiot, one of the makers of PAN! OUR MUSIC ODYSSEY will be attending, as will Ewoud Bon, cameraman on SENSEI REDENSHON.
