Our Little Sister 2

Family plays an important role in Japanese director Kore-eda Hirokazu's work, who made films like Nobody Knows, I Wish and Like Father, Like Son. In his latest – Palm d'Or nominated – film OUR LITTLE SISTER family matters are again a central issue.

Three sisters – Sachi, Yoshino and Chika – live together in a house in the city of Kamukura, south of Tokyo. They each have their own cares: nurse Sachi has taken up an affair with a married doctor, Yoshino works at a bank, but doesn't feel like this is where she belongs, and Chika, who works as a shoe seller, worries about her boyfriend's mountaineering hobby. They don't struggle with really serious issues though; on the whole, the three of them are happy.

But then their father dies – a man who walked out on them 15 years ago. At his funeral they meet their 13-year-old half-sister Suzu for the first time. As Suzu's mother is unable to care for her daughter, her three half-sisters offer to take her in.

Things turn out not to be so simple in practice. Sachi in particular has difficulties adapting to the new situation, as she has never forgiven her father for abandoning her and her sisters.
