BiografieAsghar Farhadi (Isfahan, 1972) was al tijdens zijn studie actief in de wereld van theater en film. Tijdens deze studie (Film- en Theaterwetenschappen aan de Universiteit van Teheran) maakte hij zijn eerste super 8mm- en 16mm-films. Ook schreef en regisseerde hij in deze periode stukken voor het studententoneel, schreef hij werk voor de radio, en regisseerde diverse tv-series. In 1998 studeerde hij af. In 2003 debuteert hij als filmregisseur met Dancing in the Dust. Zijn internationale doorbraak volgde in 2009 met About Elly. Met deze film won hij bij het filmfestival van Berlijn in dat jaar de Zilveren Beer voor Beste Regie. Zijn nieuwste film A Separation (2011) werd in Berlijn bekroond met de Gouden Beer voor Beste Film.
