Competition Programme: Nine films from nine countries

Our Competition Programme has been announced! World Cinema Amsterdam will open with the courtroom drama Gett, the Divorce Trial of Viviane Amsalem and our closing film will be the Ethiopian production Difret. Read more about our official selection.


On the roof of the VU

From Monday 1st to Friday 5th of September, the roof of the Vrije Universiteit will be specifically opened for the On the Roof Film Festival. Five days in which you will have the chance to enjoy five different films from World Cinema Amsterdam 5th Edition's program on the 16th floor of the VU. There will also be special introduction talks and interviews with scientists and guest speakers. All surrounded by one of the city's most spectacular views. The presale has just started.


GETT opening film 5th anniversary edition

Gett, the Divorce Trial of Viviane Amsalem  has been selected to open World Cinema Amsterdam anniversary edition (14 - 24 Aug). The film is directed by brother and sister Shlomi and Ronit Elkabetz. Kajsa Ollongren, the new Arts & Culture alderman, will officially inaugurate our 5th edition on August the 14th.


All open air movies announced

World Cinema Amsterdam Open Air programme has already been announced. Read below which films can you watch this summer under Amsterdams (or Rotterdams) starry sky.


Friday people danced to the music of DJ Edsel8 and the tambu players of Grupo ReVolushon. Before the party started people enjoyed films from Curacao and the film Home Again screened at the Marie Heinekensquare. Photographer Ivy Sankes was present to shoot pictures of the whole night.
