Kleber Mendonça FILHO (1968, Recife, Brazil) studied journalism and started out as a film critic and a programmer for an alternative film theatre in his birthplace Recife. In the nineties he started to produce documentaries, experimental and fiction films. Since 2000 he has made several shorts that won over a hundred awards altogether. His first feature length film, the documentary CRÍTICO (2008), focused on the troubled relationship between filmmakers and critics through a personal series of interviews recorded over a period of eight years. NEIGHBOURING SOUNDS is his first fiction feature.
